Captain’s Message 2010
Dear Members,
A very warm welcome to you all for the forthcoming 2010 season at Drayton Park Golf Club. I am both delighted and honoured to be your Captain for the year.
As a founder member I have seen many changes and improvements to both the course and facilities over the years. With the result I believe we have a golf course to be proud of which offers a fair test for all levels of golfers. Together with a clubhouse and facilities, which are, second to none.
I am particularly looking forward to linking up with our golf professional Jonathan Draycott for the Captain and Pro challenge matches. So if you think you can beat us book a match and see. Jonathan and his team have worked tirelessly since joining in January 2009 and have transformed the Pro shop and services offered. They deserve our support.
I will be continuing with the successful Par 3 league and the Roll up evenings, which are both a lot of fun and good for your game at the same time.
I would encourage all members to participate in the wide range of competitions on offer and to take part in the many friendly team matches covering Men’s; Ladies; Mixed and Senior fixtures. See the Club notice boards for details.
This year for the first time the members will be organising the Seniors (July 19th) and Mixed (June 10th) Pairs Open competitions. So please get your entries in early and spread the word to encourage as many members from other clubs to participate as possible.
If you would like to play in any of the matches / competitions and need a playing partner please contact the Pro shop or myself and we will arrange for you to be paired with a partner.
All members and their guests are encouraged to support the social events in the coming year. In particular the Annual Dinner (April 17th), Captain’s Day Pig Roast (31st July), Four Nations Dinner (September 18th) and the New Year’s Eve Dinner Dance. Please add the dates to your diaries and join us in making them a great success. I particularly want to promote more dancing at the events, so all you ‘Strictly’ fans come and join in.
My chosen charity for this year is the Helen & Douglas House which is based in Oxford and provides respite and end of life care for children and young adults with life shortening conditions. They intend to help around 300 children and their families this year and receive very little in direct grant, so rely almost totally on support such as ours.
We have a great team at DPGC and with your continued support we can make this a successful and memorable year. Remember there is no bad golf just better golf.
